We created a very special dessert worthy of a celebration this Spring! One bite, and you’ll feel the love of a warm day on the beach in Santa Cruz. With the waves lapping, children giggling and the sounds of a live big band drifting from the Cocoanut Grove. Yes, darling.
The Cocoanut Grove in Santa Cruz has been the place to be since the 1930s. The premier nightclub right on Main beach, the original sign still stands today, lit in neon green and carrying the old spelling of coconut — A left over relic from 1929 Marx Brothers movie The Cocoanuts. The Grove was a popular spot for groups like Buddy Rogers, Benny Goodman, and Merv Griffin. I can only imagine the summer parties that were enjoyed in 1940 something, on the beach with cocktails flowing, dancing to a big band in the warm ocean breeze.
Cocoanut Grove Chocolate Cake
A decadent chocolate cake filled with a coconut caramel sauce. We topped this beauty with a vanilla bean marshmallow finished with a generous sprinkling of shredded toasted coconut and dark chocolate, plus a storm of powdered sugar.
