When a box of cake arrives on your door-step, it's tempting to tear into it and taste everything right away. But our carefully created treats are way better with a little chilling time, and few of other details.
We like to imagine how we'd serve each dessert to our friends, setting the scene with everything from drink pairings to play list recommendations!
July's cake box was packed with our Surf City Whoopie Pies. A cookie based version of a whoopie pie, filled with a fresh marshmallow fluff. The box came with a few instructions -- briefly chill before serving and pair with an icy glass of cold-brewed coffee or lightly sweetened iced black tea.
Here's my trusty cold-brew coffee recipe:
Ingredients:
✔︎ 4 ounces of ground coffee
✔︎ 4 ounces of boiling water
✔︎ A large heat-proof container
✔︎ A strainer + cheese-cloth (in a pinch? use a coffee filter)
Directions:
Add freshly ground coffee to a large heat-proof container. Grounds should be similar in size to raw sugar.
Steep for 1 minute. Cover and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours. The longer, the better!
Strain using a slow straining set up. It's best to use a cheese cloth over a metal strainer. Pour in batches and let it slowly filter through -- avoid pressing on the grounds to speed up the process.
Pour your cold-brew into a clean jar and cover for storage in the fridge.
To serve: fill a glass with ice. Add 1/2 cup cold brew + 1/2 cup cold water. Add a splash of sweet cream (my favorite!)
enjoy! Amanda
